Robot Vacuums for Carpet and Hardwood: What to Verify

Start with both floor care instructions

Hardwood finish and carpet construction change what equipment is suitable. Obtain the floor or carpet manufacturer’s instructions, then compare them with the robot’s manual. A soft roller, rubber roller or high price does not make every configuration safe for every surface. Grit trapped in a wheel or tool can damage a floor; inspect the equipment and area before a run.

Carpet compatibility is more than suction pressure

Check the manufacturer’s exclusions for pile, rug edges and fringe. Confirm that the robot can travel across the actual transitions in your home. Maximum pressure in Pa does not provide a universal minimum for good carpet cleaning. Brush design, airflow, contact and navigation also affect the task, and comparable pickup needs comparable testing.

Do not assume a robot replaces a suitable manual vacuum for stairs, upholstery or areas it cannot enter. Supervise initial runs, especially near drop-offs, cables and movable rugs. Sensors are not a reason to disregard the operating instructions.

Separate vacuuming permission from mopping permission

Your wood flooring may permit a dry vacuum but restrict water or particular cleaning solutions. Read the care sheet before enabling mopping. Check the robot’s exact carpet-handling method: lifting, avoidance, mop removal and no-mop controls differ. Lift height is not a guarantee against wet rug contact.

If wet cleaning is not permitted or clearance is uncertain, use the manufacturer’s prescribed dry configuration and exclusions rather than relying on a broad marketing claim. See our robot-mop checklist.

Compare documented models without inventing a winner
